Mark A. Meeker, DO, FACP

Dr. Mark Meeker jokes that he spends 80 percent of his time with patients and another 40 percent on administrative tasks. That’s not an indication of faulty math skills... rather his intense dedication to making a difference.

"I really enjoy being involved on the decision-making level. There have been so many changes in health care; it’s very important that we are guided by the Sisters’ Mission with substantial physician leadership. To always put the patient first, we must work in teams and coordinate care among doctors, the hospital and other professionals."

Born in Burlington, Iowa, and raised on a southeastern Iowa farm, Dr. Meeker graduated from the University of Iowa and then went on to earn his medical degree from the University of Osteopathic Medicine and Health Sciences. 

His leadership skills became evident early on when he was named Chief Resident during his internal medicine residency at the Marshfield Clinic/St. Joseph’s Hospital, part of the University of Wisconsin system.

Dr. Meeker has always shown an inclination to pitch in and help out. When he first arrived, he chaired the Infection Control Committee of the Galesburg Clinic. Other leadership roles followed, from President of the Executive Committee to Chief of the Departments of Medicine at both Galesburg Cottage Hospital and OSF St. Mary. 

When the Galesburg Clinic joined the OSF family late in 2010, "a natural partnership" says Dr. Meeker, he became the Chief Medical Officer of OSF Galesburg Clinic. He is currently serving and has served multiple terms as Medical Staff President of OSF St. Mary as well.

Dr. Meeker and his wife, Shari, are the parents of four sons: "one each in medical school, college, senior high school and junior high. Their academic and sporting activities keep me pretty busy," he says. But he is also an Iowa and college sports fan who enjoys watching games - especially since his oldest son attended Butler, a top contender for the NCAA championship two years in a row!
