Capsule Pill Endoscopy
Capsule Pill Endoscopy
Capsule Pill Endoscopy is a highly specialized exam that is typically only ordered by GI specialty physicians. This procedure involves swallowing a very tiny camera, the size and shape of a pill (see image to the right).
This camera travels through your digestive system & send images back to a computer.
What Can You Expect?
You will be fitted with a data belt that you will need to wear for about 8 hours after ingesting the Capsule. You should not participate in strenuous activity during those 8 hours, but normal activity is not restricted. Your time at the hospital will be less then 30 minutes when you are fitted & another 15 minutes when you return.
Preparation for Exam
- Discontinue aspirin, iron products & NSAIDS (non-steroidal anti-inflammatories) for one week prior to pill ingestion.
- Do not eat or drink anything for 8 hours prior to procedure & for the first two hours after pill ingestion.
- Can eat a light meal four hours after pill ingestion.
