Volunteer Services

At OSF St. Mary
Medical Center, volunteering is rewarding. One volunteer said, "I
enjoy volunteering, and I like to give back to the community."
Another volunteer said, "I used to work here and I like to see the
familiar faces. I also like to visit with people." We offer five
positions here at OSF St. Mary Medical Center. They are: surgery
waiting, courier, information desk, gift shop and patient escort.

Surgery Waiting
In the surgery waiting area, volunteers start at 6:00am and finish
around 2:20 or 3:00pm. Services include escorting patients to the pre-op
room from the admitting office and assisting in keeping families
informed of the patient's location, ie, operating room or recovery room.
Courier
The courier travels from department to department delivering and picking
up things when needed. There are two separate shifts. The morning shift
is 9:00am-12:00pm and the afternoon shift is 12:00pm-3:00pm.
Information Desk
At the information desk, a volunteer directs patients and visitors where
to go. Services include answering questions and letting visitors know
where patients are located. There are three shifts: 9:00am-12:00pm,
12:00pm-3:00pm and 3:00pm-6:00pm.
Gift Shop
In the gift shop volunteers run the cash register and assist customers.
There are three shifts: 9:00am-12:00pm, 12:00pm-4:00pm and
4:00pm-7:00pm.
Patient Escort
These volunteers take the patient from admitting to surgery, waiting,
lab, x-ray or wherever necessary. This shift is 6:00-11:00am, Monday
through Friday.

For each

couple of days before being on their own.
